EUGENE “GENE” GEORGE TIMMERMAN

LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Eugene “Gene” George Timmerman, 73, Lamar, who died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at his home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Daniel Funeral Home (Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home; two daughters, Ronda Braker and husband Terry and Shelby Taffner and husband Kevin, all of Lamar; a son, Donnie Timmerman and wife Tracy, El Dorado Springs; a brother, John Timmerman, Albuquerque, NM, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Timmerman was born Dec. 9, 1945, in Breese, Ill., to John and Norma (Strevel) Timmerman. He grew up in Jerico Springs and attended school at Stockton. He later moved to Lamar where he met the love of his life, Martha, of 50 years.

He worked as foreman of the City of Lamar Sanitation Department for 30 years and was forced to retire due to an accident that left him paralyzed. With the help of his wife he was able to continue to participate in activities that brought him joy.

He has a passion for dirt track racing, as a race car owner and a fan. He never met a stranger and was widely known throughout the racing community. He had an extensive list of drivers that drove for him, producing hundreds of wins. He touched the lives of many people in the dirt track racing community and always looked forward to visiting or helping fellow racers, whether it be to provide race car parts or advice.

He took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports, going to pageants and of course racing. He also enjoyed being outdoors and taking his dog “Pee Wee” for rides to the lake.
