LIBERAL- Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar for Evelyn June (Prusia) Barker, 95, who died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.

Survivors include her sons, Guy Barker and wife Phyllis, Bruce Barker and wife Leann and Gary Barker and wife Gwen; her daughter, Sherry Christian and husband Mark; six granddaughters; two grandsons; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons and sisters, Shirley Woodruff and Marilyn Kessler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her brother, Norman Prusia and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn.

Mrs. Barker was born May 18, 1924, in Burt County, Tekamah, Neb., the eldest of four to Harold and Myrna Prusia. She grew up in Nebraska and graduated from high school at Platte Valley Academy near Shelton, Neb. After graduation she attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb. for two years where she met her future husband, Lyle Barker. They were married on July 2, 1946, in Tekamah, Neb. Mrs. Barker taught school for three years in Nebraska before the couple moved to a farm near Milford, Iowa, where they began their family. In 1954 the family moved to a farm near Liberal. Mrs. Barker returned to school and graduated in 1960 from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught in the Liberal school district for 17 years.

Mrs. Barker was very good at keeping busy and her house was always spotless. She loved her grandkids and always had their favorite snacks on hand. Her sugar cookies were famous in the family and she taught her granddaughters how to bake them.

She was devoted to her church, the Pittsburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and helped out in any way she could.

She will be deeply missed.
