OLIVER CONES

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Graveside services were held at the VA Cemetery in Jacksonville for Oliver Leroy Cones, 93, who died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020.

Mr. Cones was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Boston, Mo., to Mary “Molly” and Johnny Cones. He went to school in Boston and later attended Lamar High School for three years and Lockwood High School for one. While in Lockwood he built ammunition boxes for Lockwood Lumber Co. He then joined the United States Marines on the day he turned 18 and served until the end of World War II.

After being discharged, he attended college to become a professional dancer and managed several Arthur Murray Dance Studios including Chicago, Ill., Gary, Ind. and Baltimore, Md., before moving to Virginia Beach, Va., where he continued to teach dancing.

Following retirement he moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving is one sister, Nellie Higgins, Lamar. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters, Floyd Cones, Iola Kearney, Ivy Aeschlemann and Alberta Westbay.
