GOLDEN CITY-A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City for David Lawrence Disney, 86, Golden City, who died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Truman Healthcare Center, where he had been a resident for the past three weeks. Pastor Lonnie Pennell officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Golden City Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Craig Alan Disney and wife Sherry, Bloomfield; a daughter, Kathryn Boehne, Golden City; two brothers-in-law, George Riley Taylor and wife Dixie, Golden City and Eldor Von Stroh, Republic; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Iris, and a brother, Cecil.

Mr. Disney was born April 14, 1929, at Laverne, Okla., to David and Charlotte (Roberts) Disney. The Disney family moved to Golden City to own and operate Disney Service Station. Mr. Disney began a 42 year career at Wholesale Supply (Meeks) in Lockwood and helped his brother Cecil by working at the station every Saturday.

He was a die-hard Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan and umpired Little League baseball games in Golden City for many years, being known to have major differences with opposing team's fans. He raised a huge garden every year and shared his abundant harvest. He was a member of Golden City United Methodist Church. His life was characterized by love for his family, hard work and honesty and his family considered him to be the best dad and grandfather ever.

He married Sharron Lynn Taylor on Sept. 8, 1961, at Lockwood. She died June 12, 2008.
