COVID update

February 21, 2022

According to Barton County Health Department Administrator Joel Dermott, the COVID case count remains in a downward trajectory. “Statewide and locally, our positivity rate is hovering near 10 percent,” commented Dermott, adding, “We haven’t seen it at that level since late fall, just before the Omicron breakout”. It was noted that there are some pockets of cases, particularly in congregate settings, but overall the outlook/trend line is very favorable.

“Omicron has spread the virus to levels well beyond our vaccination rate,” said Dermott, noting, “With it comes a level of natural immunity”. He went on to add that although it is not a time of celebration, all can say that the worst of the Omicron outbreak is in the rearview mirror.

To date there have been 2,220 confirmed cases of COVID in Barton County, with 554 probable cases, 10 active cases, 40 confirmed deaths, eight probable deaths, 2,716 recovered and 25 new cases in the past seven days.
