ALBERT JUNIOR “AJ” MCMANIS

LAMAR- Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Lamar for Albert Junior “AJ” McManis, 97, Lamar, who died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage. Burial followed at Lake Cemetery in Lamar.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Lamar VFW Post 3691 in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Justine, two sons, Robert McManis and wife Carolyn and Gayland McManis and wife Carla and one daughter, Judy Ferris, all of Lamar; nine grandchildren, Jenny Moore and husband Chad, Chad McManis and wife Jennie, Michael McManis and wife Becky, Jerrad Ferris and wife Astra, Linsey Brazeal and husband Les, Brock McManis and wife Tara and Justin McManis and wife Misty, all of Lamar, Landon McManis, Valdosta, Ga. and Brista Poor and husband Justin, Springfield; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a half brother, Derl Jones and wife Barbara, Peculiar and a niece (who was more like a sister), Kathy Lafon and husband Jess, Carthage.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary McManis; a son-in-law, Larry Ferris; a great-grandson, Jordan Ferris; a great-great-granddaughter, Lily McManis; one brother and four sisters.

Mr. McManis was born July 22, 1925, in Greenfield, to William Albert McManis and Effie Ester Cleo (Berry) McManis. He married Lena Justine Mayo on Dec. 2, 1946, in Bentonville, Ark. They were married for 75 years.

Mr. McManis worked for O'Sullivan Industries and was also a cattle farmer. He was a Mason and member of the VFW Post 3691. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Lamar.
