Mrs. Hoover was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Ontario, Calif., to Edward and Jessie (Peterson) Rose. During World War II she worked as a welder in a Portland, Ore. shipyard. After the war ended she met Eugene “Gene” Leon Neuenschwander, who was working as a logger in the northwest woods, after being discharged from the Navy. They married on Dec. 8, 1949, and soon after moved to his home state of Missouri. He died in 1971. She then married Clifford Hoover on Dec. 30, 1972.

She loved to nurture growing, living things and had a special interest in birds, animals and gardening. She worked with the women's group at Hannon Free Will Baptist Church and helped raise funds for missionaries and sending children to church camp. She also participated actively in the Shiloh Club, a women's social group for neighbors in the Shiloh School area. Activities with her grandchildren were a special source of joy for her.
