Mammen honored with farewell reception

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Members of Marilyn Mammen's church family from Liberty Baptist, as well as members of the community gathered on Sunday, May 15, in the basement of Lamar Memorial Hall, to wish her luck as she begins a new chapter in her life. Mammen will be moving to Clyde, Ohio, in order to be near her children. In fact, daughter Melanie Weasner and grandson, Drew, showed up for the occasion, which made a nice surprise for Mammen. Besides the many cards and accolades from the community, she received a proclamation from Ed Emery, on behalf of the Missouri Senate, and one from Mike Kelley, on behalf of the Missouri House of Representatives, thanking her for her investment in Barton County. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation featured Vintage Vegas on Saturday evening, April 13, at Thiebaud Auditorium in Lamar. During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. BCCF board member Nancy Curless, right, presented Davis with the check, along with a $5,000 check from the foundation.
