Lamar Democrat/Richard Cooper
This year’s Memorial Day service was held inside at Walmart, where brief services have been held for the past several years. VFW Post 3691 was invited to present the colors since there were insufficient numbers of VFW members to hold the traditional outdoor services on the Barton County Courthouse lawn. Mycah Reed, far left, sang the National Anthem, and Jack Kirk, inset, told of his “honor flight” to Washington. Numerous girl scouts also took part in the services that were hampered by lack of a public address system.
