LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Daniel Funeral Home for Billy M. Windes, 80, Lamar, who died early Saturday morning, July 2, 2016, at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Barton County Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Rick Windes and Pam Wineiniger and a daughter, Lori Windes, all of Lamar; two sisters, Rose Wolfe, Golden City and Virginia Beeson and husband Wayne, Hobbs, N.M., several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Harrell, Dixie Montgomery and Ruth Glenn.

Mr. Windes was born July 25, 1935, in Lockwood, the only son and youngest child of Percy and Dora (Wooldridge) Windes. With natural woodworking ability, a wealth of knowledge about lumber and construction, and a genuine desire to help others, he was perfected suited for his 22 year career as assistant manager of Community Lumber in Lamar. When the lumberyard closed, he worked for O'Sullivan Industries for 18 years. He was a gifted wood artist who derived much pleasure from sharing finished projects with family and friends. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, especially if it meant spending time with his family.

He married Shirley Lathrop on Nov. 19, 1956, in Nevada, Mo., and they shared 49 years before her death on Dec. 9, 2005.
