LAMAR-Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home for Donald Dee Stahl, 93, rural Lamar, who died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Stahl and wife Ann and Jack Stahl and wife Sherri, all of Lamar; a daughter, Mary Davidson and husband Rick, Joplin; 10 grandchildren, Angel Patterson and husband Kevin, Donovan Stahl and wife Jessica, Marty Ansley and husband Jeremy, Becky Powell and husband Logan, Wendy Rose and husband Lindy, Kim Earl, Kelly Phipps and husband Brock, Kerry Cravens and husband Jason, Kaycia Jones and husband Joe and Ashley Turner and husband Ben; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Stahl and a sister, Corene Cassidy.

Mr. Stahl was born Dec. 26, 1922, on the family farm he called home all of his life, to Ralph and Mary (Vlazny) Stahl. He was a 1940 graduate of Lamar High School then entered the U.S. Army, where he served in the Aleutian Islands, Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II. His infantry division was involved in many battles and campaigns as he was wounded in action in Germany of April 1, 1945. He was awarded a Purple Heart, as well as many other decorations and citations for his service.

In addition to farming, he was a rural mail carrier for many years, traveling country roads and checking crops as he delivered mail to neighbors and friends. With a deep concern for the community, he served on various boards including MFA, FFA and Golden City Produce Exchange. He enjoyed the fellowship of family dinners, friends around a card table or an evening of bowling.

He married Martha Pahlow on December 14, 1946. She died April 23, 2014.
