LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lamar Family Ministries Center for Joann Dykes, 82, Lamar, who died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Howell Cemetery, south of Milford.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Gary Dykes and wife Paula, Lamar; two daughters, Lisa Evans and husband Greg and Debbie Glover and husband Jerry, Lamar; a sister, Donna King, Stockton; nine grandchildren, Amanda Osborne and husband Dustin, Stacy Glover and Melanie, Austin Glover and Megan, Lindsay Edwards, Christina James and husband Kyle, Christopher Dykes, Zachary Dykes, Susan Conner and Joel Evans; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Bailey, Isabel, Hailey, Aidan, Greyson, Kyler, Ryker and Aria and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on Dec. 29, 2005 and an infant sister, Mary Dean Baker.

Mrs. Dykes was born Jan. 13, 1934, in Cassville, to Lee and Ruth (Carson) Baker. She married Henry Dykes on July 3, 1952, at Eureka Springs, Ark. She and her husband operated the Sears Catalog Store in Stockton for many years. In 1988 they moved to Lamar, where she was a clerk at Snooper's on the square, as well as a knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide at the Truman Birthplace. Never meeting a stranger, she enjoyed the friendships fostered through her years as an Avon representative. Her ready smile and warm countenance were an encouragement to many. She cherished time spent with family and was an eager and loving babysitter whenever there was a need. She had been an active part of Lamar Family Ministries Center.
