LAMAR-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for John H. Wagaman, Jr., 85, Lamar, who died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. A brief visitation will be held prior to the service, at 1:30 p.m. Military honors and interment will follow at Lake Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nora Wagaman; two daughters, Shirley Beer, Pittsburg, Kan. and Elizabeth Ann Gann, Waynesville; a son, John H. Wagaman and wife Kathy, Freemont Hills; four grandchildren, Vanessa Chasm and husband Brian, Lauren Greenberg and husband Caleb, Tom Wagaman and Tim Wagaman and one great-grandson, Ezra Chasm.

Mr. Wagaman was born April 18, 1931, at 305 Broadway in Lamar, to John H. and Aileen (Von Gunten) Wagaman. He was a 1949 graduate of Lamar High School and attended the University of Missouri, where he played football and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was a member of the United States Air Force, having served honorably in the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Eighth Fighter-Group Association and was active in the American Legion and had served in the honor guard with the local VFW Post 3691.

He was active in many service groups and as trustee on many local boards, including the Barton County United Way, Barton County Memorial Hospital and the Barton County Mental Health Board. He was also active in the Springfield Elks Club, several Masonic organizations, was a life member of the Barton County Historical Society and past president of the Four-County Bank Association.

He had served as an officer at Barton County State Bank for over 40 years and had been a member of the Lamar First Baptist Church for over 50 years.
