KANSAS CITY, Mo.- A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Platte Woods United Methodist Church for Loyd Rex Steelman, 84, Kansas City, Mo., who died Saturday, March 18, 2017.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sandra Steelman, of the home; a daughter, Debbie McDonald and husband Don, Leawood, Kan.; a son, Scott Steelman and wife Mary, Blue Springs, Mo.; five grandchildren, Eric and Curt McDonald and Taylor, Molly and Hannah Steelman and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Steelman Treadway.

Mr. Steelman was born June 28, 1932, in Lamar, to Loyd Rex and Eva Steelman. He was a 1950 graduate of Lamar High School and a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He married Sandra Rosier Sherman on June 13, 1954, at the Lamar United Methodist Church.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A total of $3600 was raised at the car and jeep show held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lamar Christian Church Parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the new Barco Drive-In screen tower.
