BURLINGTON, Iowa- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis for Dorothy Faye Wagenbach, 90, rural Burlington, who died Monday evening, April 3, 2017, at home, surrounded by her family. A family visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Oakville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lunning Funeral Chapel, Burlington.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lunning Chapel.

A memorial fund has been established for the Apostolic Christian Church of Mediapolis.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Paul; one daughter, Gail Hudson, Burlington; three sons, Marc Wagenbach and wife Monica and Colin Wagenbach and wife Barb, both of Burlington and Craig Wagenbach and wife Michelle, Chicago, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale Marti and wife Corinne, Lamar, Mo.; one sister, Allene Steffen and husband Jerry, Goodfield, Ill. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Brent Jay, who died Feb. 19, 1959, at six months of age after contacting pneumonia; two sisters, Corrine Roth and Ruth Schrock; three brothers, Alvin, Ervin and Leonard “Joe” Marti; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Wagenbach was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Lamar, Mo., to Fred and Anna (Kaufman) Marti. When she was seven years old her four-year-old brother Alvin died in a tragic accident while on a Saturday afternoon car ride.

She graduated eighth grade from Barton County Public Schools in 1940 and was a 1944 graduate of Lamar (Mo.) High School. Following graduation she worked at Great West Assurance, where she rode the daily train from Lamar, Mo. to Ft. Scott, Kan. to work, a 45 mile trip.

She was baptized on Jan. 4, 1946 and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Lamar, Mo. She married Paul Richard Wagenbach on March 21, 1948, in Lamar, Mo. and they set up housekeeping on his father's farm in rural Burlington, where they raised crops and livestock. She was a farm wife and homemaker.

Mrs. Wagenbach and her husband took their children to the Apostolic Christian Church on Hwy. 99, near Oakville. In 2013, a new church was completed in Mediapolis, where she faithfully attended until the time of her death.

In 1970, she enrolled in the LPN program at Southeastern Community College and upon graduation worked on the pediatric unit at Burlington Medical Center. She was a dedicated nurse and had a special love for children.
