LIBERAL- A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bluff Cemetery for Carolyn Jean Thompson, 66, Liberal, who died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Truman Healthcare Center, following a long illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to the Carolyn Thompson family, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one daughter, Laminda Thompson, Liberal; two brothers, Darrell Spurling and wife Kim and Mike Spurling and a sister, Cora Ganger, all of Liberal; four grandchildren, Jacob Chapman, Kaysha Chapman, Brandon Thompson and Kaitlyn Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Chapman, Harmony Brown and Mandolynn Chapman; a stepmother, Velma Spurling and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eddie Thompson in 1999 and a daughter, Lavona Chapman in 2009, as well as two brothers, Randy and Robert McMechan.

Mrs. Thompson was born July 13, 1950, in Ft. Scott, Kan., to Wilbert Wayne and Ethel Marie (Bogart) Spurling. She had attended Liberal schools and was proud that she was able to earn her GED. She married Darrel L. Thompson on Sept. 8, 1967, in Oskaloosa and together they reared three children. They later divorced.

She worked at Peerless Products and National Mills in Pittsburg, Kan., as well as Sugar Creek Packaging in Frontenac, Kan. She attended Church of God Holiness in Liberal. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, camping, hunting, horseback riding, gardening and canning. She was known as being a good cook.
