A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City for Melvin L. Monroe, 61, who died August 25, 2015. Mike Gage of the First Christian Church in Lamar will conduct the service. There will also be a military honor guard presentation to the family.

Survivors include three sisters, Coleen Kelley, Tallassee, Ala., Rose Gorsic, Warrensburg and Janet Searles, Iantha; four cousins, Mark Monroe, Janet Marley, Tim FitzGerald and Jeanne Piercy and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Monroe was a veteran of the United States Navy and as an E-4 served as a gunner during Desert Storm on the USS Wainwright and the USS Jack Williams. He then became a cook for the Navy.
