WILLIAM H. PFANDER

TUCSON, Ariz.- William H. Pfander, 93, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, after a short illness in Tucson. Mr. Pfander grew up in rural Jasper, Mo., attended local schools and went to the University of Missouri on the GI Bill after service in World War II. He earned his Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and returned to UM-C as a professor of Animal Science in the Department of Agriculture. Mr. Pfander was named the associate dean for research in that department before retiring from active teaching in 1988 after 35 years of service. Among other accomplishments, he raised the money to build the university’s Animal Science Research Center.

He and his wife Margaret moved to Arizona 10 years ago and settled in Tucson. Apart from his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael, James and Geoffrey and seven grandchildren. His youngest brother, John, predeceased him, as did his parents, Edwin and Anna Pfander. Among his joys were Lamar High School reunions and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, he has asked that donations be sent to a fund at the university. Checks can be made payable to The William H.
