LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home for Helen Jean Keithly, 74, Lamar, who died Monday, July 24, 2017, at KU Medical Center after suffering a stroke on Saturday. Dr. Mark Turnbough and Rev. Don Keithly will officiate. Burial will be in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, Mo.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; one son, Michael Keithly and wife Vercie, Lamar; one daughter, Teresa Butler and husband John, Pella, Iowa; grandchildren, Vashti Stevenson and fiance Andrew Longboy, Bradly Keithly and wife Rebecah, Carrie Keithly and fiance Doug Dixon, Aiden Keithly, Pherra Keithly, Garret Keithly, Kolton Keithly, Ethan Butler and Kaylee Butler; great-grandchildren, True Keithly and Aurora Keithly; two brothers, Delbert “Deb” Mayfield and wife Nadine and Lyn Mayfield and wife Marilyn and one sister, Janet Sechrest and husband Larry.

Mrs. Keithly was born May 5, 1943, in Irwin, to Harvey and Iva (Greer) Mayfield. She graduated Lamar High School in 1961 and married Bob Keithly on June 16, 1963. Together they reared two children. She had worked at Lilly’s Dept. Store, ASC Farm Bureau Office and the Lamar School Cafeteria. In 1985 she began working as the deputy recorder of deeds for Barton County. In 2003 she was elected to the office of Barton County Recorder of Deeds and worked until her retirement in 2006, serving Barton County for 22 years. She was an active member of the Lamar United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the hospital.
