JASPER- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakton United Methodist Church for Richard C. Gastel, 84, Jasper, who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at his home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, at Weng Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avalon Hospice or Oakton United Methodist Church Operation Christmas Child.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Gastel, of the home; five stepchildren, J.B. Simpson, Liz Thompson, Deanna Brainerd, Ed Rives and Ben Rives; three brothers, James Gastel and wife Jeannie, Jasper, Dwight Gastel and wife Kay, Golden City and Kenny Gastel and wife Arvilla, Rock Island, Ill. and two sisters, Doris Little and husband Ray and Janet Diggs and husband Steve, both of Lamar.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Keith Gastel, Gary Gastel and Larry Gastel.

Mr. Gastel was born March 13, 1933, in Barton County, to Leonard and Gladys (Patterson) Gastel. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Oakton United Methodist Church.

He married Ellen Morris Rives on July 12, 2002.
