LAMAR- A celebration of life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Daniel Funeral Home for Jerry Wayne Phipps, 61, Lamar, who died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, following a long illness. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry Phipps Carpentry Scholarship, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Heather Duncan and husband Dennis and Abby Phipps, both of Lamar; his brother, Allen Phipps and wife Carolyn, North Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Brenda Rhodes and husband Bob, Lee’s Summit; grandchildren, Britni Eaves and husband Brandon, Brantly Duncan, Bayli Duncan and Bryli Duncan and two great-grandchildren, Paityn and J.B. Eaves.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Marie Phipps, on July 1, 1995.

Mr. Phipps was born June 18, 1956, in Lamar, to Amos Leroy and Reba Lois (Stump) Phipps. He was a 1974 Lamar High School graduate. He married Connie Houston on June 26, 1976, in Lamar. To this union were born three daughters, Heather, Abby and Julie Marie.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, FFA, serving on the advisory board for Building Trades at the Lamar Vo-Tech and helping the youth group at First Christian Church. He took pride in building many homes in Lamar and surrounding areas before an automobile accident in 1995 which left him disabled. He had also been a member and deacon of the Milford Christian Church.
