CARTHAGE- A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lamar for Margaret Mattie (Sheldon) Dale, 89, Carthage, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Missouri, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one sister, Gladys Lewis and husband Bill; one son, Bill Joslen and wife Sue and two daughters, Lisa Tubaugh and husband Ray and Karen Dale; three grandchildren, Billy Joslen and wife Teresa, Emily Blinzler and husband Marshall and Natalee Tubaugh and husband Jacob Crazybear; one great-grandchild, Mason Blinzler; three nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Joslen.

Mrs. Dale was born June 3, 1928, in Carthage, to Levi and Dorothy (Lewman) Sheldon. She was reared on a farm northeast of Carthage. She was a 1946 Carthage High School graduate and following graduation she was employed the next 14 years at Schreiber Foods.

She married Lee Roy Dale in Miami, Okla. on May 23, 1956. They moved to Lamar, where they began their family and operated Dale’s Packing Company with his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Helen Dale. She worked in the business until the plant closed in 1987 after a fire. She then worked as a lunch lady, as well as a hostess at the Blue Top Restaurant. She continued working until retiring at the age of 80 and moving back to her hometown.

She was a 50-year member of Mt. Hope Chapter No. 74, Order of Eastern Star and an active member of the Lamar Methodist Church. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and helping her neighbors, always with a cat prowling on the premises.
