NEVADA- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Nevada for Ronald David Hughes, 64, Nevada, who died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, as a result of an automobile accident. Pastor Tim Brewer will officiate. Burial will be in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Vernon County Youth Fair or Rose of Sharon, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; two children, Kendra Byers and husband Matthew, Nevada and Hunter Grant and Kelly, Ashville, N.C.; a brother, Robert L. Hughes and wife Sue, Nevada; mother-in-law, Leta Bloesser, Walker; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Caldwell and husband Rocky, Walker and Nancy Hughes, Lamar; several nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Hughes and LeRoy Hughes and his father-in-law, Tom Bloesser.

Mr. Hughes was born Oct. 28, 1953, in Nevada, Mo. to Raymond L. and Doris Jeanell (Heddinger) Hughes. He loved the outdoors from a young age. He enjoyed spending time with his cattle, hunting with his dogs and farming. He was a 1971 graduate of Walker R-4 High School. He was an auctioneer in his spare time and belonged to the Missouri State and National Auctioneers Association. He was also a member of the Missouri Coon Hunters Association and was actively involved with the Vernon County Youth Fair.

He was a long-standing member of Walker Christian Church where he served as a deacon, as well as youth Sunday school teacher. He was currently attending the First Baptist Church of Nevada. He farmed and raised cattle in the Walker area most of his life.

He married Janet L. Bloesser on Dec. 10, 1983, in Walker.
