Shannon Washburn, who works in Research & Development at Leggett & Platt in Carthage, is to be married to Keith Frieling, director of Physical Therapy at Cox Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar. Washburn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Washburn, Liberal and Nancy Washburn, Lamar. Frieling is the son of the late Edgar and Norma Frieling of Booneville. A July wedding at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a February honeymoon is planned. The couple plan to reside in Carthage.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 recently donated $1,000 to the Famous Missouri Veterans Monument, to be erected at the Barton County Memorial Park, located on the corner of 2nd and Gulf, in Lamar. The monument will recognize veterans that made a significant difference while serving in the armed services. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A total of $3600 was raised at the car and jeep show held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lamar Christian Church Parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the new Barco Drive-In screen tower. Pictured are, left to right, Lamar Bank & Trust President Pat O’Neal, Barco Drive-In Theatre fundraiser director Landin Myers and representing the Plaza/Barco and Lamar Community Betterment, Scott Kelley. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the bank, or drop it by the Plaza Theatre on the south side of the square.
