FAIRFIELD, Calif.- A memorial service and celebration of life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Purcell (Mo.) Baptist Church, for Sanford Lee “Sandy” Grimmett, Jr., 59, Fairfield, a former Carthage, Mo. resident, who died at 12:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at Kaiser Vallejo Hospital in California, after a battle with cancer.

The family requests for those attending to bring their memories so they may be passed to his wife and family.

Memorial donations may be made to Jasper (Mo.) Youth Baseball, c/o SMB Bank of Carthage, 101 E. Grand, Jasper, MO 64755.

Survivors include his wife, Lourdes, of the home; his parents; a daughter, Tara West and husband Shawn, Raytown, Mo.; a son, Sanford Grimmett III, of the home; brothers, Mike Grimmett, Butch Atnip and wife Julie; Rodney Lillard and wife Sharon, all of Jasper, Mo. and David Lillard and wife Pamela, Arkansas; sisters, Vickie Cawyer and husband Ed, Oronogo, Mo. and Cindy Lillard and Brenda Hodson, Carthage, Mo.; one grandson, Anthony West, Raytown, Mo. and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Grimmett was born Nov. 30, 1958, in Carthage, Mo., to Sanford Grimmett Sr. and wife Nina and Dolores Atnip and the late Max Atnip. He was a 1976 graduate of Jasper (Mo.) High School and a member of the Purcell (Mo.) Baptist Church.

He had worked for Leggett and Platt before moving to California. He was a very big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and played a very big part with Jasper (Mo.) Youth Baseball, having coached many young boys in Jasper, Mo.

He married Lourdes Vieyra on July 29, 1991, in California.
