CARTHAGE- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Weng Funeral Chapel in Jasper for Della Irene Lucinda Mayhugh, 99, Carthage, who died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the O.A.T.S. transportation system.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Mayhugh was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Barton County, to John Thomas and Bertha Viola (Andrews) Taffner. She was a homemaker and helped with O.A.T.S. transportation system. She was a member of the Jasper Christian Church.

She married Harold Mayhugh on April 11, 1941, in Stockton. He died Aug. 30, 1986.

During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The First Baptist Church stepped outside of its walls on Sunday morning, as members of the congregation, along with others from the community, gathered at the Wyatt Earp Park in order to worship the Lord. Music sheets were handed out to those attending, with the church’s worship leader Steve Livingston and the Praise Band from the church leading in the music. Dr. Robert Hodson, senior pastor at the church, shared the sermon. According to Ron Sandberg and Ed Patterson, a total of 198 were in attendance on this beautiful day.
