LAMAR- Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for John Henry “J.H.” Phipps, 77, who died Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Cox Barton County Hospital. Pastor George Haag officiated. Burial was in the Sheldon Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Peggy; two daughters, Doris Fast and husband Rick and Cindy Kirby and husband Kyle; two sons, Dale Phipps and Rusty Phipps and wife Sandra; nine grandchildren, Nicki Walker, Ricky Fast, Tara Scheets, Rustin Phipps, Kelsey Stenger, Levi Phipps, Kendall Short, Riley Phipps and Kennedy Kirby; 12 great-grandchildren, Baylee and Blair Walker, Blaine and Vance Breshears, Colton, Allie and Carson Sheets, Addison Ahres, Ryder and Waylin Phipps, Russell Phipps and Carter Short and two brothers, Carl and Leon Phipps.

Mr. Phipps was born July 21, 1941, in Sheldon, to Woodrow and Madelene (Jones) Phipps. He attended Lamar High School and graduated with the class of 1959. He married Peggy Jones on Oct. 2, 1960 and they recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

He was a farmer, a member of the Barton County Farm Bureau for 50 years and served as Farm Bureau board president for 25 years. He was a board member of the beef council for six years, president of the Sheldon Co-op for six years and sold Cargill Seed for 20 years. He was a member of the Hopewell Church and had served as an elder for 45 years.
