ROBERT “BOB” RANDALL JONES

INDEPENDENCE- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton for Robert “Bob” Randall Jones, 87, Independence, who died Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. Visitation will be held prior to the service. Burial will be in the Kingston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Disabled Veterans.

Survivors include a sister, Anna Lee Waadevig, Longview, Wash.; brother, George Jones, Worthing, England; three sons, Gary Jones and wife Katrina, Lee’s Summit, Tim Jones and wife Kathy, Independence and Todd Jones and wife Nijuana, Lake Alfred, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Marie Wallace; brothers, Henry Eugene Jones and JB Jones and a sister, Betty Wacker.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Orrick. He moved to the Kingston area as a young child and remained there until 1947 when his family moved to Rochester, Minn. In 1948 he enlisted in the US Army and after boot camp was assigned to the 73rd Tank Battalion, Fort Benning, Ga. In the summer of 1950 his company was called into action in the Korean War. He served as a tank driver and tank commander and was engaged in combat at Pusan, Incheon and the Chosin Reservoir. After the war he returned to Rochester, where he met his future wife, JoAnne Marie Wallace. They eloped to Los Angeles, Calif. on July 3, 1952.

They eventually returned to Minnesota and lived there until the summer of 1971, when the family moved to Independence. In 1987 they purchased property near Nevada, Mo. and worked at Thorco manufacturing. After retiring they traveled, eventually settling in Lamar for two years. After his wife’s death in 2001, he returned to Independence and remained there until his death.
