SHELDON- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Mo., for Dorothy Mae Walker, 80, Sheldon, who died Monday, May 6, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following a brief illness. Pastor Wayne Coble will officiate. Burial will follow in Sheldon Cemetery.

The family will received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include four children, Danny Lee Johnson, Fairland, Okla., Daniel Walker and wife Dee, Lamar, Dennis Walker and wife Sandy, Sheldon and Debbie Huggins and husband Roger, Sheldon; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (with number seven arriving in July); one sister, Bettie Helsel, Colorado Springs, Colo. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Willa Faye McNary.

Mrs. Walker was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Ordway, Colo., to Verl and Ester Johnson. She attended school in Lockwood and Golden City. She came to Sheldon in 1957 and worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the Sheldon area.

She was a member of Sheldon Christian Church and the Sheldon Lions Club. In 2013 she was the Grand Marshall of the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic. She loved fishing and camping and was also well known for her fudge and divinity that she made each year at Christmastime.

She married Edward D. Walker on June 9, 1967, in Miami, Okla. He died Nov. 11, 2000.
