LAMAR-A graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at High Prairie Cemetery, near Altoona, Kan., for Linda Jean Lackey, 69, Lamar, who died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at her home.

Arrangements were under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barton County Memorial Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Bush and wife Gail, Wichita, Kan. and Darren Bush, Lamar; two granddaughters, Kimberly Fields and husband Lee and Heidi Campbell and husband Mike, all of Wichita, Kan. and four great-grandchildren, Jaidynn and TreyVon Fields and Jason and Nicholas Campbell.

Mrs. Lackey was born April 5, 1946, in Chanute, Kan., to Eldon and Alberta (Pinkston) Mathew. When she was five years old her mother died in an automobile accident and she was reared by her great-grandmother, May Schooler and great-aunts, Elsie Pinkston and Coleen Bennett. After graduating from Pittsburg College High School in 1964 she worked at the Parsons Ammunitions Plan and as a CNA at Fredonia Regional Hospital. In 1984 she earned a degree in radiology from Labette Community College and worked at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. for four years before accepting a position as director of radiology at Barton County Memorial Hospital. In 1995 she literally switched gears, beginning at 19 year career as an over-the-road truck driver.

She was an avid reader, accomplished cook and enjoyed gardening during her home time. Of all the many jobs, titles and interests in her life, her greatest satisfaction and pleasure came from being a grandmother.
