LAMAR- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home for Walter David Johnson, 89, Lamar, who died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Burial will follow in Howell Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita; three sons, Alan Chaput and wife Trudy, Walnut Grove, Ark., Henry Mankey, Cache, Okla. and Daniel Mankey and wife Denise, Lamar; three daughters, Rose Ann Dalton and husband Steve, Springfield, Susan Asbell and husband Brent, Jasper and Yvonne Boyd, Lamar; 17 grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, Joy Ann Klock, Rebecca Smith and Jeri Lynn Mankey; one brother, Bobby Johnson and three sisters, Imogene Morrow, Dollie Thorton and Shirley Geisler.

Mr. Johnson was born June 24, 1929, in Milford, to Walter Chester and Pansey Mae (Adams) Johnson. He was a 1947 graduate of Lamar High School and joined the local Army National Guard in 1948. He was discharged Dec. 26, 1951.

He owned and operated Johnson Hardware and Furniture Store on the east side of the Lamar square for 67 years and was also an auctioneer for Johnson’s Auction from 1948 to 2015. He was a member of the Lamar First Baptist Church since 1953, where he taught Sunday school for 30 years, and was a chartered member of the Lamar Optimist Club. He was a lifelong fisherman.

He married Alice Juanita Huddleston on Dec. 24, 1971, in Lamar.
