LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for Floyd Wilson Banwart, 96, Lamar, who died Friday, June 21, 2019. Burial will be at Iantha Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday evening, at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Miller and husband Doyle, Iantha and Patti Todd and husband Greg, Lamar; two stepchildren, Wally Simons and wife Pam, Girard, Kan. and Ann Landrum and husband Keith, Neosho; eight grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Mae Chapman, Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his second wife Marie and his brother, Ray Banwart.

Mr. Banwart was born March 26, 1923, in Barton County, to Eli and Lizzie (Braker) Banwart. He went to school through 10th grade in Iantha and then through 12th grade in Mindenmines. He served in the US Army in the Philippines during WWII, and didn’t have enough points to come home, so he served in Korea until he could.

He married Doris Goodman on April 4, 1948 and started farming. In the winter, he and his brother would work as carpenters, building barns and sheds. His wife died May 11, 1984. He then married Marie (Lanz) Simons on June 1, 1985. He retired from farming in 1989 and started a woodwork shop that he worked until he was 93 years old. There, he made beautiful pieces of furniture. One year he made 42 Adirondack chairs, due to their popularity.

He had quadruple bypass surgery in 1995 and had rehab three times a week for the next 23 years. In 2018 he could no longer stay in his home, so he moved to Maple Senior Living, where he made several friends.
