Lamar Rotary presents check to assist with missions

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Members of the Lamar Rotary Club gathered following the veterans’ appreciation luncheon held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Lamar United Methodist Church Family Life Center, to present a $500 check to Cindy McFadden. The money will be used to help with expenses incurred by Cindy and Lonnie McFadden, who will be taking a Life of Hope Ministries mission trip to Guatemala City. Life of Hope Ministries is a multi non-denominational ministry based out of Joplin and is dedicated to improving the lives of children who face poverty through education, emotional, physical and spiritual support. The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
