Barton County 4-H Youth attend National 4-H Congress

Kaitlyn Davis, daughter of Matt and Elizabeth Davis, Lamar; Kendall Krueth, son of Kevin and Linda  Krueth, Liberal and Lexi Phipps, daughter of Joyce and Scott Phipps, Lamar, recently attended National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. The trio enjoyed the outstanding trip filled with leadership, community service and workshop opportunities. The event closed with a gala ball the group enjoyed, with delegates for the SW region, as well as the new friends from other states and Puerto Rico. Barton County 4-H is very proud of the youth representation to the National 4-H Congress.

Drone photo by Joe Davis Rawlings Crane & Fabrication has been busy installing the new screen at the Barco Drive-In. This photo from Thursday morning shows both wings in place. The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
