PITTSBURG, Kan.- Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar, Mo., for Katherine Irene (Turner) Farmer, 96, who died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, where she had resided for five years and spoke often of how she loved it there. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Wright and husband Eldon, Leroy, Marsha Harris, Lewiston, Calif. and Kathy Marti and husband Roger, Liberal, Mo.; six grandchildren, Rick Sprenkle and wife Tammy, Randy Sprenkle and wife Regina, Kevin Sprenkle and wife Kelli, Wayne Stephens and partner Jennie Freeze, Tami Helms and husband Paul and Katie Umphenour; 19 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren, with four more on the way.

She was preceded in death by a baby sister, Ruby; her brother, Allen; a sister, Shirley and a son Jerry.

Mrs. Farmer was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Leroy, Mo., to Roy and Alma (Garrett) Turner. She was a graduate of Liberal (Mo.) High School.

She worked for Keys and the State Hospital, both in Nevada, Mo. and cleaned houses in her many years of work. She retired after 15 years at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, as the housekeeping supervisor. Anyone that worked with her knew she didn’t put herself above anyone and expected perfection from herself and the ones that worked for her.

She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Liberal, Mo. and was a member of the Eastern Star of Garland for many years, where she made many lifelong friends.

She was her family’s treasure and was the essence of generosity, grace and inner beauty. Her work ethic was her legacy and she led her family by example. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
