Liberal R-2 breaks ground for new storm shelter and gymnasium

Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow Liberal R-2 Superintendent of Schools Bill Harvey addresses the crowd during a ceremonial groundbreaking held last week to commemorate the beginning of construction on the new storm shelter and gymnasium on the campus of the high school and middle school. The project is possible because of a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant and a bond issue passed by the district's voters. The district is also working on plans to deal with the loss of the old high school and middle school and the elementary gym from an arson fire last fall. That project will also involve a storm shelter on the elementary school campus.
