LIBERAL- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Church of God Holiness in Liberal for Marvin Smith, 75, Liberal, who died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, after an extended illness. Burial will be in Barton City Cemetery, in Liberal.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Liberal Rural Volunteer Fire Department, in honor of Mr. Smith and his willingness to serve his community.

Survivors include his wife Betty, of the home; a son, Leland Smith and friend Charlene Piel; a daughter, Crystal Lemmons and husband Mike; a son, Lyndell Smith and wife Sara; a sister, Marlin Hunter and husband Richard and four grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Josie Smith, Logan Lemmons and Brady Lemmons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman Smith, Melvin Smith and William “Calvin” Smith.

Mr. Smith was born July 18, 1944, on a farm near Verdella, to William F. and Mabel E. (West) Smith. He graduated from Liberal High School and married Betty J. Sisseck on Nov. 27, 1965. They lived in Nevada, Mo. for three years and then moved to the family farm of his birth, where he lived the remainder of his life. He loved the land and worked as a farmer, raising cattle and animals and row crops all of his life. In addition, he worked as an aide for 32 years at the Nevada State Hospital. His patients loved him and he loved them. He gave freely of himself to others. He served the community as a volunteer, trained First Responder for 23 years and again, provided care to others wherever he could. He was a Godly man who loved the Lord and was a member of the Church of God Holiness in Liberal.
