Lamar schools close until April 3

March 16, 2020

There is no higher priority for the entire Lamar R-1 School District family than the safety of their students, staff and the entire community. After meeting with the Barton County Health Department and neighboring school districts and consulting with Big 8 Conference schools, Lamar R-1 has decided to dismiss for a wellness break from now until April 3.

All events, activities (extra-curricular, co-curricular) and practices will be suspended/postponed during this time. In addition, all buildings and facilities will be closed, including gyms, weight rooms, fitness rooms, band rooms, etc. District administration will reassess the situation with local health departments and surrounding school districts on or before April 3, to determine when school will resume based on any new guidance. The school will be consulting with DESE guidelines for making up these days.

This decision was not made lightly and it is known that it will cause great hardship for some patrons. These are unprecedented times and the school asks for your support as they navigate this crisis. They would ask individuals to be attentive in their observations of social distancing recommendations and crowd size limitations to ensure this closing does the greatest amount of good in slowing the progress of COVID-19.

District updates will be posted on the district webpage www.lamar.k12.mo.us, not social media, so please check the updates frequently.
