LEE’S SUMMIT- Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Waters Cemetery in Jasper for Gilbert Ronald Bergman, 81, Lee’s Summit, who died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, in Independence. Services were officiated by James Myers.

Arrangements were under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to Iantha United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Rita; a son, Randy Bergman, Iantha; a daughter, Rhonda Yates and husband Jim, Lamar; three stepsons, Steve Myers and wife Pamela, Russellville, Ark., James Myers and wife Paige, Belton and David Myers, Lee's Summit; two sisters, Emma Wooten, Humboldt, Kan. and Juanita Johnston, Dallas, Texas; two grandsons, Josh Myers and wife Wendy, Webb City and Ryan Myers and wife Sarah, Ozark; nine great-grandchildren, Whitman, Hudson, Eirelyn, Killian, Finnigan, Myla, Darby, Rachel and Maewyn and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Dixie and a brother, Raymond Bergman.

Mr. Bergman was born Jan. 5, 1939, in Nashville, Mo., to Gilbert Raymond and Gertrude Irene (McNeely) Bergman. He was a 1957 graduate of Jasper High School. On May 30, 1959, he married Dixie Sue Sharp in Jasper and she died in 2012. He married Rita Myers in 2013 and she survives of the home.

Mr. Bergman worked as a supervisor at O'Sullivan Industries for 40 years and owned and operated Bergman Custom Workshop. He was a member of the Iantha United Methodist Church.

Aside from woodworking, he enjoyed reading, traveling, spending time with his family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered by his constant smile and love of conversation with anyone he came in contact with. He didn’t know a stranger and touched many lives in the community.
