Lamar’s Picnic in the Park is being held Thursday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Lamar City Park. Food trucks that are available to serve the public include Haile Yeah BBQ, SongBird’s Kitchen, Prime Cut, Old School Smoking LLC and Ghetto Tacos. The next Picnic in the Park will be held Thursday, Oct. 26. This will be the last Picnic in the Park for this year. Be sure to watch for their return next spring. Picnic in the Park offers variety
The Lamar High School Class of 1973 met for its 50th reunion over the weekend of August 25 and 26. The group met at the Lamar United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 25, where all enjoyed grilled hamburgers that had been donated by Danny Little, with side dishes and desserts being provided by classmates. The second night, on August 26, the group met at the home of Tom and Maria O’Sullivan and enjoyed a meal that was catered by Chicken Mary’s restaurant. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Katherine Miles, co-founder and CEO of Katie’s House, spoke to large group that attended the banquet on Monday evening, Sept. 25. She gave an account of how Katie’s House came to be and how she and husband Bill stepped out in faith as God led the way.

The Lamar fifth grade Tigers traveled to Neosho on Saturday, Sept. 23, to take on the Neosho Gold team. While the Tiger defense played an amazing game, the offense couldn’t seem to get on track and Lamar suffered their first loss of the season by a score of 34-12. Lamar will return home to Thomas M. O’Sullivan Stadium for their next game against Nevada, which always proves to be a good game. Game time for the fifth grade will be 11:30 a.m. The sixth grade plays at 10 a.m., with the fourth grade playing at 1 p.m. and third grade at 2:30 p.m. Come out and support these young Tigers that are the future of Lamar's successful football program.
