LIBERAL- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for Betty Jean Turner, 92, Liberal, who died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022.

A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Survivors include her son, Ted Turner, a grandson, Seth Turner and a great-grandson, River Turner, all of Peculiar; three sisters, Vivian Duke, Olathe, Kan., Sandra Porter and husband Lee, Liberal and Joni Ethington and husband Harold, Independence; a brother, Carl Venable and wife Pat, Liberal and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her siblings, Nettie Lou Cessna, Wilbur “Bud” Venable, Jr. and Glenna Rogers; her brothers-in-law, Riley Duke, Earl Rogers and Al Cessna and a sister-in-law, Wilma “Dean” Venable.

Mrs. Turner was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Liberal, to Wilbur “Glen” and Novella (McClendon) Venable. She graduated from Levasy High School in 1946 at the age of 16. She married Lloyd Gilliam on April 17, 1948 and William Junior Turner on December 15, 1963.

She started working at Sears & Roebuck Co., in Kansas City, Mo. and then worked at Ford Motor Company in North Kansas City, Mo. before she joined Heet Gas Co. in Liberal, where she remained for many years. Mrs. Turner was known for her style. She was always neat and put together with matching accessories. She loved old country music and dancing, especially jitter bugging with her sisters. She was also known for her generosity. She enjoyed visiting with old friends and going home to Leavsey, where she would drive around visiting familiar sites and reminiscing. She loved and was dedicated to her family. Her grandsons held a special place in her heart.
