COVID update

September 12, 2022

“With fall just around the corner, hopefully we can say goodbye to a long hot and dry summer”, said Barton County Health Department Administrator Joel Dermott. Of course, he noted, the flip side of this will also be officially entering the flu season. The Barton County Health Department has flu shots available for all age groups. Just give them a call at 417-682-3363 and schedule a convenient time.

In addition, Dermott noted that a reformulated COVID booster will be available in the next week or two. The recently approved booster shot has been reformulated for the Omicron variant of the virus, which has dominated COVID infections across the country. This is a booster shot only and requires that an individual (18 years and older – Moderna) has received a primary vaccination at least two months prior. The vaccine has been ordered and the health department is awaiting shipment. Dermott said, as always, do your research and consult your doctor to determine if this is the right decision for you.

Dermott pointed out that COVID infection numbers remain steady across the region, stating, “Unfortunately, we are seeing increases in several other viruses that normally make their appearance during colder months”. He went on to say, “Lots of nasty stuff is circulating around these days so stay healthy and get outside and enjoy some of this beautiful weather the Lord has blessed us with”.
