JAMES DALE “JD” KIRBY

RURAL LIBERAL- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hannon Free Will Baptist Church for James Dale “JD” Kirby, 89, rural Liberal, who died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Cemetery Association.

Survivors include his three children, Kimbra Jo Brunk and husband Randy, Kyle Douglas Kirby and wife Cindy and Scott Thomas Kirby and wife Melanie; a sister-in-law, Pam Gregory and husband Doug; a brother-in-law, Jerry Runnels and wife Janet; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan and son Tim in 1983 and his sister, Bonnie.
Mr. Kirby was born Oct. 20, 1933, to James Thomas and Josie Ann (Dryer) Kirby. He was a graduate of Mindenmines High School. He served in the Army at the Panama Canal for two years and soon upon his return he married Joan Runnels on Feb. 19, 1956, at Nashville Christian Church in Nashville, Mo.
Mr. Kirby was a farmer and as the farm operation grew with land, hogs and cattle, he farmed in partnership with his sons. They moved from the Nashville area to north of Liberal in 1974.
He was an active member and deacon at Nashville Christian Church and later moved to Hannon Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.
He and his wife were avid Liberal Bulldog supporters and he enjoyed watching Royals and Chiefs games.
His greatest joy was seeing his children and grandchildren grow to adulthood and carry on the family traditions for the next generation.
