Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The First Baptist Church, located at 1301 E. 6th St., in Lamar, held its 7th annual Faith, Family & Fireworks beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3. The evening started off with free hot dogs, chips and bottled water to those attending the celebration, as well as a car and truck show that was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bingo was played in the FLOC building at 6:30 p.m., followed by the community worship band that performed from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Also included was Pastor Dr. Robb Hodson bringing a message, using the popular verse, John 3:16. Also available was face painting, numerous bouncy houses and pony and wagon rides. Also available to those attending was Jack’s Ice Cream, The Shiver Shack and The Nutty Bavarian. The evening was free as an outreach ministry to the community. The evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks show at 9 p.m. Fireworks pictures from both the First Baptist Church and Truman Healthcare will be featured in the July 17 edition of the Lamar Democrat.

Barton County 4-H members recently attended the 2024 4-H Camp at Camp Smokey, located at Roaring River State Park. They gathered for some fun days of friendship, excitement and adventure, while enjoying various activities including water games, arts and crafts, spin bike smoothies, exercise, volcanic reaction, scavenger hunts, swimming, lockbox intrigue, fishing, salsa making, dancing, hike and much more.

Drone photo by Joe Davis A capacity crowd at the Barco Drive-In was a site to behold on Friday night, July 19. According to Scott Kelley, theatre manager, sales are cut off at 310 cars and unfortunately some had to be turned away. No fears though as Twisters A Quiet Place, rated PG-13, will be playing at the drive-in every night through Thursday, July 25. An interesting note – The original Twisters movie that was released in 1996 proved to be a sell out as well.
