RURAL SHELDON-Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada for Charles Eugene Banes, 88, rural Sheldon, who died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, following an illness of several months. Tricia Brandt will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Sheldon Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bronaugh High School, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Banes, of the home; a son, Mike Banes and wife Kathy, Bronaugh; a daughter, Sue Rohrs and husband Randy, Harrisonville; eight grandchildren, Phil Banes and wife Sheila, Sheldon, Brent Banes and wife Ashley, Bronaugh, Kyle “Bubba” Banes and wife Emily, Sheldon, Genea Stoffer and husband Travis, Harrisonville, Rashell Fraley, Joplin, Kayla Kildahl and husband Kevin, Cold Springs, Minn. and Reggie Fraley, Cold Springs, Minn. and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Fraley Banes.

Mr. Banes was born April 5, 1927, in Sheldon, to Les G. and Straussie Ethel (Cliffman) Banes. He grew up in the Sheldon and Bronaugh area and was a lifelong resident there. He attended school in Bronaugh, graduating from Bronaugh High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1945 until 1947, while stationed in Germany. Following his time in the army he returned home, where he farmed and raised cattle his whole life. He was a member of the Lamar VFW. He was also an avid bird and coon hunter.

He married Shirley L. Walker on Sept. 6, 1953, in Bronaugh.
