LBT makes generous donation to screen replacement project

Lamar Bank & Trust Co. employees were delighted recently to present Barco Drive-In manager Scott Kelley with a check for $20,000, to be used towards the new screen tower project.

The event was held on campus at the Reynolds Alumni Center during Mizzou’s Donor Recognition Weekend. MSF members serve as university ambassadors to alumni and the MU community, advocating charitable giving to Mizzou and helping to educate and encourage fellow students to become regular contributors to the university after graduation. Kaitlyn, a junior dual majoring in Political Science Pre-Law and Strategic Communications, currently serves as vice-president on the Executive Board of Mizzou Student Foundation. Ryan, a freshman majoring in AgriBusiness Management with an emphasis in Finance, was selected for membership in this prestigious program this past February.

Brett Birdsong’s house at 410 Gulf Street in Lamar has been selected as this season’s “Beautiful Garden” by the Master Gardeners of Barton County. Brett has lived in his house for about three years and some of the items he has added to his yard include sunflowers, four o-clocks, lily of the valley, several types of mint, knock-out roses, a blackberry bush and a peach tree. He also has a small vegetable garden where he grows tomatoes, onions, peppers and corn. He says that gardening does not have to be expensive. He has foraged numerous plants, purchased several items on clearance and grown many plants from the seeds he has saved from the previous year’s plants. He is a photographer by trade, and you can definitely see his artistic ability in his beautiful landscaping.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Jasper High School held its commencement exercises on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 3 p.m., at the high school gymnasium. A full house was on hand to celebrate the Jasper High School Class of 2024 on their big day. Makenna Althof gave the valedictorian address, followed with co-salutatorians, Livia Dumm and Taylor Hinds. The ceremony concluded with graduates tossing their caps up in the air, then having balloons dropped on them as they continued to celebrate with family and friends.

SNHU announces Winter 2024 President’s List
Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Eleven Sheldon High School graduating seniors were celebrated during commencement exercises held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the high school gym. The salutatorian address was given by Aiden Ellifrits, followed by Kinder Standley, who presented the valedictorian address. Guest speaker for the ceremony was Holly McCaslin and following the presentation of diplomas, scholarship awards were given to various students, followed with a senior class slide show that is always enjoyable for all to view. Following the recessional, students made their way to the back of the gym where they celebrated, then joined family and friends for even more celebrations.
