LAMAR-A memorial/farewell party will be held at the Barton County Eagles in June for family and friends of John O. Cook Sr., 72, Lamar, who died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at his home, following a short battle with cancer.

His remains will be cremated by Midland Cremation Society, Joplin.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Nelson Cook; two stepsons, Charles Osborne and Dustin Osborne; a daughter, Crystal M. Brigham; an ex-wife, Peggy Sue Reed Cook, John Jr., Terry Joe and Tammy Jean Cook and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sidney LaRue Cook and a son, Shane Allen Cook.

Mr. Cook was born March 20, 1944, to LaRue “Cookie” Cook and Opal Marie Stubbs and was the stepson of Delbert Riley. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas, as a Private 1st Class from 1963 to 1964.

He served as president and Past Worthy president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Barton County 4405. He had been honored by Grand Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles with a certificate, stating that he was an official member of the Grand Aerie.

He loved playing and singing country music and was known for his talent in singing “The Auctioneer Song”, which was usually requested for him to sing.
