NEVADA-A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada for Jack Dean Arnold, 83, Nevada, who died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Rev. Bill Platt will officiate.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the home; daughters, Shari Arnold Hamblin and Bill, Overland Park, Kan., Dena Arnold Cooper and Lee, Harrisonville; four grandsons, Chris Hamblin and Amy, Sam Cooper, Matt Hamblin and Luke Cooper; twin brother, Bob Arnold and wife Joann; sister, Sue Logan; sister-in-law, Linda Terrill Eveans; cousin, Bob Burris and wife Claudine and four nieces, Bobette Arnold Messick, Lori Arnold Pearce, Deanna Arnold Yokley and Sarah Eveans Clendenen.

Mr. Arnold was born, along with his twin brother Bob, in Lamar on Nov. 26, 1932, to Hugh and Helen Arnold, Sheldon. He was a 1950 graduate of Sheldon High School and in July of 1955 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Terrill.

Mr. Arnold served his country in the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Beale Air Base, Sacramento, Calif., Ladd Army Airfield Base, Fairbanks, Alaska and MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla. Upon returning from his service he completed his degree in education at Missouri State University. He worked in education for 34 years. During those years he was a coach, teacher, guidance counselor and coordinator of Wentworth Junior College's satellite program in Nevada, Mo. After retirement, he sold real estate for Stutesman's Action Realty in Nevada, Mo., and worked for the juvenile office, counseling at-risk students.

He enjoyed years of playing golf at the Nevada Country Club, drinking coffee each morning with good friends and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his four grandsons. Watching his grandsons' sporting events was one of his favorite pastimes, along with spending winters in Florida with his brother Bob Arnold and wife Joann, after retirement.
