National WIC Breastfeeding Week recognized

Lamar Democrat/Melissa Little A proclamation has been received by the Barton County Health Department, stating that National WIC Breastfeeding Week is August 1-7. The proclamation was presented by the United States Department of Agriculture. Tina Schnelle is the certified lactation counselor at the health department, with primary breastfeeding peer counselor being Kaylee Timmons and breastfeeding secondary peer counselor, Lacey Probert. The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
