City council examines airport, sets tax levy

Lamar Democrat/Richard Cooper The Lamar City Council examined the hangars at Municipal Airport prior to their regular meeting, August 15. There was general agreement that the 12 oldest hangars should be demolished and replaced with new structures. Several of them are still in use. Examining one of the occupied 12 are, left to right, Bill Talbott, Steve Gilkey (back to camera), and Mayor Kent Harris. New hangars are a part of the airport upgrading program.

The material for the screen will be installed late next week and hopefully, after some tweaking, the Barco will open May 3.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
